The internet is a very astonishing device if i may put it like that. It deeply draws you into its abyss like a sucking black hole that sucks you right through to its bottomless pits. When you are on the internet you could be surfing or browsing or chatting or any other thing you can imagine for hours without even realising it.
My favorite activity on the internet that which i confess i am addicted to is reading the blogs of my fellow country men and women (my favorites are bellanaija, Linda Ikeji, and naijavixen),Nigerians. I never had my own blog untill of course when i had to create one for this New Media New markets class. But i read other blogs about different things, specially about fashion and the paegent industries, both of which i am a huge fan of.
I hardly look for new things to do on the internet other than checking my various or numerous emails, googling stuff, reading blogs, following the fashion and model news, and watching online Nigerian movies, i do not really see it a near necessity of exploring the internet.
Nevertheless something new i would like to try on the internet is reading whole novels or books just on the coomputer, of course for free, i know this will be burdensome, but hey its for free meaning i do not have to buy the book.
Anyways, something i know that i will definately never try to do on the internet is to get a "My Space" account....and thats a topic for another day....
adios..amigos...
Jumping on the band wagon and creating a blog of my own...yee ahh

Internet: The Big Picture
Internet: "The Big Picture" "What are the major pieces of the Internet, and who are the major players in each segment?"

Top rated internet consultant, speaker and instructor, Russ Haynal in this special website talks about the internet, describing this wonderful not so new media and its major pieces, that is Russ Haynal describes to his students about what really makes up the internet.
The major parts of the internet that he mentions are; User PC, User Communication Equipment, Local Loop Carrier,ISP's POP, User Services, ISP Backbone, Online Content, and Origins Of Online Content.
I am not much of a computer genuis so all those names of the parts of the internet sounded like Greek to me until i started reading carefully the explanations, descriptions and the ways that each part is connected to the other, the names slowly began to make some sense. It is a whole lot to take in but basically i was a bit surprised at how each part was connected and how all these different parts make up the internet like for example Russ talks about the ISP POP which is the edge of the ISP's network. This is where wireless or dial ups connections to the internet from the user are accepted and authenticated. I also liked the way he portrayed the ISP Point of Presence a human being in the picture illustrated beside the explanation of this major part of the internet.

In conclusion this informative website about how the part of the internet and how it works opened up my minds in knowing that even wireless internet connections are not all that wireless but have connecting parts such as the ISP's and others. Way to go Mr Russ Haynal!
